What is an Arboriculture Report?

Local Authorities try to protect good quality trees for the benefit of our wildlife and vegetation. The criteria for protection varies from area to area but covers features such as height, age, health and type of tree. An Arboriculture Report is a tree survey that examines this.

Who carries out an Arboriculture Report?

Structural Engineers, Surveyors and Tree Consultants are trained and qualified to carry out this type of work. Be sure to check their qualifications and make sure they have the necessary knowledge to undertake a professional survey – there are potentially some heavy fines to pay if a protected tree is removed without permission from the Local Authority.

When do I need an Arboriculture Report?

For Planning: Tree surveys are needed for most new and sometimes existing property development sites. The trees  on neighbouring land will also be included in the survey because often those in close proximity will have a route system that reaches onto the development site. The report can than make recommendations such as a root protection area for a given tree on which there would be no development allowed so the tree can grow unhindered. The report can be used to support a planning application. Sometimes it will include a Tree Protection Plan ( BS5837).

For a mortgage:  When applying for a mortgage, a surveyor will visit the property on behalf of the mortgage company.  Sometimes the surveyor will ask for a tree survey because they have noticed trees are close to the building being surveyed. This is because some trees are a real hazard to the building’s foundations. This information could prove essential when applying for insurance.

For your garden / for your land: It is wise to check with your Local Authority before you cut down or drastically prune trees in your garden or land you own. There could be serious consequences if you carry out work on tree that either is or should be protected. If there are potential hazards on the site that could damage a tree, such as large moving machinery, it may be necessary to get at Tree Hazard Survey done.

For trees close to buildings: If you have concerns that a tree could do damage to a building in the future.

For tree damage to a building: You may need a structural engineer  as well as a tree survey.

For diseased trees: trees that are diseased or in danger of becoming diseased can usually be removed but you must check with your Local Authority first and have the appropriate documentation to prove it is necessary.

We send an email to all of the Customers who request estimates from our website asking for any feedback they may want to give.  These are some of their comments:

The website was easy to use and provided me with the information I needed. I followed up with Chris Overbeke. He was very helpful and professional. He arranged to go and see the tree in question in good time and his report was with us very soon afterwards. His report was clear, detailed and easy to understand. I was very happy with the service he provided.
Johanna, Hitchin, Hertfordshire
The website suggested useful contacts from the search for tree surveyors and was easy to use and I received a quick response from surveyors for quotes. I used OMC Associates who were able to carry out the work very quickly and reported back in good time.
Richard, Swindon, Wiltshire
Trevor was excellent – incredibly fast response, survey done within 24 hours, managed all the communication with the estate agent, provided a detailed report, good communication throughout, price charged matched the quote, and he has offered to assist further if the mortgage lender requires it. I couldn’t ask for better service.
Mr Pearce, Bishops Stortford
Survey was thorough and professionally reported
John, Coventry
Responded quickly Covered all the points we needed from our survey. Excellent price for the survey. Very pleased with response, detail and pricing.
