Choosing a Builder
If you have had plans drawn up by an architect for a new build property, or for an extension, you will then need to find local builders to make these drawings a reality. In some cases you may already have builders lined up, and be completely comfortbale that they are going to provide an excellent, cost effective service, but if you don't - what should you do?
1) Check out price comparison sites such as this one! Many sites provide feedback on the builders listed - so make sure you read this and take note of any issues raised
2) Ask your Architect who they have have experience of dealing with. Would they recommend any of them?
3) Ask friends and family if they have any recommendations
Before appointing a builder - check out any previous work they have done. Can you speak to the home owners involved? Were they completely happy with the work they carried out? Did they have any problems? If they did - were they dealt with effectively? Are they a member of any professional body? The National Federation of Builders (NFB) keeps a register of all its members, so it is worth checking with them to see if the builder you have chosen is listed.
